Playing with digital paint

I opened a file (image of tulips, original watercolor painting) in Adobe Illustrator, "traced" the image, then played with color using Illustrator's Live Paint Bucket.

Would I enter this in an exhibit? No. Did I have fun? Yes."

RANGE CREATIVE ART CENTER
SPRING Watercolor Class: CREATE COLOR HARMONY

Class Description
CREATE COLOR HARMONY (inspired by BIRDS, BUDS, and BLOOMS)
Painters, explore color and color mixing to create harmonious warms and cools in my watercolor class, starting Thursday, April 29, 2010. Using BIRDS, BUDS, and BLOOMS as inspiration, we will work with complementary and analgous (closely-related) hues, design good shapes, and create harmonious, well-balanced compositions.

Demonstrations will emphasize color harmony inspired by colors and shapes of BIRDS, BUDS, and BLOOMS. Painters, you may choose to paint the daily demo, or work from your own photos. Learning how to better control color-mixing and color-values will be a sweet addition to your creative repertoire.

Four sessions start Thursday, April 29, May 6, 13, 20, from 1:00 – 3:30 PM at the Range Creative Art Center.

At the end of each lesson, students will have a completed work to sign, take home, and frame. All levels welcome. MATERIALS LIST.

To register, Email classes@rangeartcenter.org, call 218-263-6785, or write to Range Creative Art Center, 328 W. Howard Street, Hibbing, MN 55746.

Along with teaching group classes and workshops, I teach private lessons, working with students individually to resolve problem areas and achieve (respective) goals.

Handful of comments from painters who have taken my workshops and classes.

  • I truly enjoyed the classes and sincerely thank you, Louise, for getting me started.
  • I appreciate your reminder to USE FRESH PAINT!
  • Your enthusiasm gives students the fire to jump in with both feet. Thanks much!
  • Your class helped me get started in a new direction. There's so much I need to know and want to learn. This is good!
  • I really appreciated your stopping by my station and helping me (not once but many times).
  • Your workshop had a good balance of instruction, demonstration, hands-on, individual and group instruction. You are generous in sharing your knowledge and expertise.

"In the same way that music may be keyed up or down and made relatively loud or soft, colors may be swung around the spectrum in the dimension of hue, or by changing the values which surround them they may be made to seem lighter or darker."
